Blair gave birth to Ripley “a.k.a. Hurricane Hugh” on April 19th, 2004, at 12:45 am. It was a very exciting event! We took lots of photos and video clips for those who could not be there. Since Ripley’s birth the Board of Directors has placed Blair on permanent resident status here at RVHR for the rest of her life as the birth was a difficult one because of her leg injuries. It is our goal to keep her from ever foaling again.
Ripley was adopted by a wonderful family who put in their application on him prior to his birth. This family had asked to adopt Blair’s foal, if it lived, and was accepted at that time. Given all the trauma from the trailer accident, which brought Blair to us in the first place, and the medication she was taking when she first arrived, as we did not know she was pregnant, RVHR and her veternarian expected there would be many problems with the foal. To everyone’s amazement Ripley is a perfect colt with no visible or expected deformities. Other than a few initial afterbirth problems with nursing, colic and a plasma transfer for lack of antibodies in his system, his future now looks quite bright. Mother and son will be leaving us on Friday, April 30th, for Ripley’s new home where his forever family can bond with him and help him grow into the man he is meant to be. Blair will be fostered there until it is time to wean her boy. Then she will return to RVHR to live out the rest of her live with our staff, members and volunteers who have come to love her so much.
Thank you everyone for all of support and love you have sent for Blair.
Each Year as Ripley has Grown.
Each year we ask Ripley to keep us updated with new photo’s here are some that we want to share with you.
November 2012 Ripley comes back to RVHR for medical treatment of leg injury!
On 11/29/2012
Ripley injured his leg which was in need of medical treatment daily. He needed to be kept on stall rest for 2 weeks giving it time to heal. During the same week Blair stumbled and injured her back leg putting her on stall rest also. We have had the opportunity to have them both in the new medical barn at the same time. How amazing it has been to see mother and son back together after 7 years.
